There's been some raised eyebrows that former Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson is now the housing minister, given his track record on the file.
Vancouver remains one of the most expensive cities in North America, with a high cost of living.
Carney — who campaigned on building more homes and eliminating the GST for first-time homebuyers on homes under $1 million — was asked whether this is a sign he doesn’t want to see the average price of a home come down.
“You would be very hard-pressed to make that conclusion,” he said. “We have a very clear policy.”
Carney said he is thrilled with having Robertson on his team, and said he will play a role dealing with municipalities' roles in the housing market.
