Sherfane Rutherford has joined the Barbados Royals in a trade deal with the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots which sees Royals stalwart Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze move the other way, ahead of the Caribbean Premier League 2025.
Rutherford, who had an abrupt, controversial exit last season, will bolster a powerful batting lineup which includes the likes of Rovmann Powell, David Miller, Quinton de Kock and Rahkeem Cornwall.
On the other hand, Holder's move away from the Royals is a landmark one, as he will ply his trade away from the Barbados-based franchise for the first time in his CPL career. The West Indian all-rounder has played for his home franchise since the inaugural edition in 2013 and was part of the championship winning sides in 2014 and 2019.
Athanaze, 26, too is part of the move to the Patriots. The left-hander batter had a middling season in 2024 when he scored 179 runs as the Royals made a run to the Qualifiers.
The CPL will be played from August 14 to September 21.
